Athletics SA knows about Caster Semenya's medical condition, says the sport's Western Province president.

WP president James Evans said a "clear indication" of Semenya's medical condition had been given at a meeting in Germiston on Saturday.

The impromptu meeting of provincial presidents had been addressed by ASA administrator Ray Mali, who was appointed by the SA Olympic body last year after Leonard Chuene had been suspended.

In a statement yesterday, Evans said Mali had briefed the meeting on various matters, including that of Semenya, the 800m world champion, who has not competed since last year while waiting for results of gender tests.

ASA and the International Association of Athletics Confederations have not indicated any awareness of the outcome on tests on Semenya. The IAAF said Semenya would have to wait two more months before being told if she could compete again.

Semenya's lawyers, however, said that based on what they had seen, they believed Semenya was entitled to take part in women's athletics events.

James did not expand on his statement and Mali was not available for comment yesterday.
