England thrashed Sri Lanka by seven wickets last night to move into Sunday's final of the World Twenty20 tournament.

Sri Lanka batted first, but could only make 128/6. England passed that score in the 16th over, with Kevin Pietersen unbeaten on 42 from 26 balls. - Sports staff

Plans for richest fight

PROMOTERS for Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jnr are trying to keep expectations low while they prepare for another round of negotiations for what could be the richest fight in boxing history.

Pacquiao promoter Bob Arum says he will soon start talking to Mayweather's camp about putting together the world's top two welterweights for a November 13 bout in Las Vegas or Texas. - Sapa-AP

Injury plagues Woods

TESTS reveal that golfer Tiger Woods has an inflamed neck joint that causes pain and makes it difficult for him to turn his head.

Woods says on his website that an MRI on Wednesday determined that he has inflammation in the facet joint of his neck. He expects a full recovery, though he did not say when he would be able to return. - Sapa-AP

Pumas aim for Tri-Nations

ARGENTINA has taken a major step towards joining an expanded Tri-Nations rugby competition in 2012 after the International Rugby Board changed player availability rules.

The final step will be negotiating a participation agreement with Argentina. Under the rule change, clubs will have to release players for the competition from late August to early October each year. - Sapa-AFP

Terry back to training

CHELSEA captain John Terry returned to training yesterday after an injury scare that briefly threatened his participation in the FA Cup final against Portsmouth on Saturday.
