WHO says the Lions didn't learn from former Ellis Park supremo Dr Louis Luyt? Remember how Luyt, who doubled up as Sarfu boss, fired CEO Ed Griffiths by fax? Well, the Lions did more or less the same this week when serving notice to Carlos Spencer and Wayne Taylor via e-mail.

  • AN EMAIL penned by a Sharks fan who has a thing for economic indicators landed in Tightheads' inbox this week. He drew parallels between historic Sharks victories since 1984 and South Africa going into recession immediately afterwards. With the mental welfare of Bulls and Stormers fans in mind, let's hope there is no "double dip" for this recession.
  • WELL thank you, Bob Diamond, was Tightheads' reaction to the news there would be no Currie Cup launch this year. Diamond is the embattled, erstwhile group boss of Barclays, parent company of Absa, who sponsor the Currie Cup. Barclays' budget cuts are now affecting the way SA's oldest rugby competition is promoted. Or are Absa saying they are fed up sponsoring a competition in which the Springboks are as rare as a bank transaction with no charges.
  • THIS tweet caught Tightheads' attention: "Pierrespies8' @Hennie20328982: Hi Pierre hoekom is dit net engels is julle skaam vir julle taal'.Nee, daar is mense in di buiteland wat ni afr verstaan." Translated it goes: 'Hi Pierre why is it just (in) English are you (guys) ashamed of your language?' 'No, there are people abroad who don't understand Afrikaans."
