Oscar Pistorius should be banned for the rest of his life from running the track, so says US Olympic legend Sanya Richards-Ross.

"At the end of the day, there was a woman that ended up dead. I don't think he should have the privilege of competing in the sport anymore," Richards-Ross is quoted as saying by TMZ.

Richards-Ross, who won four gold medals from 2004 to 2012, says it pains her to call for the life ban on Pistorius because she used to be tight with the disgraced Blade Runner.

Richards-Ross said that she never would have imagined that Pistorius had it in him to kill someone.

Pistorius evaded a guilty murder verdict but was convicted of culpable homicide this month in the death of his model girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp two years ago.

The International Paralympics Committee will make a decision about Pistorius's future based on his upcoming sentencing next month.
