The 2010 edition of the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup has boosted the careers of South Africa's under-19s despite the team being knocked out in the quarterfinals.

South Africa took fifth place with a six-wicket win over India on Wednesday.

Dominic Hendricks has arguably been the revelation of the tournament. South Africa's highest-run scorer (391), ended his tournament on a high with 77 against India. He scored at a brilliant average of 97.75, and won three man-of-the-match awards. Hendricks has played three first-class matches for the Highveld Strikers.

Tireless workhorse Graham Hume bowled his full quota of 60 overs in the six pool matches, taking 13 wickets at an average of 15.53. Hume was among the tournament's leading wicket taker.

Eastern Province have produced two quality batsmen in Colin Ackermann and David White. South Africa U-19 batting coach Geoffrey Toyana tipped Ackermann as players to watch out for.

Fast bowler Rabian Engelbrecht's raw pace earned him a comparison with Morné Morkel, though he struggled somewhat during the competition.

The South Africa Under-19 team will be disappointed to have lost their quarterfinal clash against Sri Lanka - especially after winning an impressive seven of eight matches, including a victory over eventual winners Australia who beat Pakistan by 25 runs yesterday, and strong contenders India and New Zealand.
