The Gauteng derby between the Highveld Lions and Titans, was the only match in the fifth round of SuperSport Series cricket to get off the mark as the bad weather around the country played havoc with the fixtures.

There was a late start at Senwes Park where the Lions won the toss and decided that the Titans should bat first.

At the end of the day they had possibly had slightly the better of exchanges with the Titans reaching 194 for five in 59 overs.

The Lions made early inroads when both Jacques Rudolph (9) and Henry Davids (0) fell cheaply and at one stage they were 57 for three in 19 overs.

Pieter Malan (51 off 110 balls with 8 fours) and Heino Kuhn then resurrected their fortunes with a lively stand of 65 in 16 overs and there was a further unbroken stand of 38 in 15 overs for the sixth wicket between Kuhn and Albie Morkel before the close.

These two will carry the Titans’ hopes into day two with Kuhn going particularly well (71 off 112 balls with 7 fours and a six).

Elsewhere no play at all was possible at Paarl where the Cape Cobras are playing the Dolphins or at Buffalo Park where the Warriors are up against the Knights.
