Cricketer Andre Nel has attempted suicide, it was reported.

Afrikaans newspaper Rapport said that Nel tried to take his own life on Friday.

Nel's pregnant wife, Deanne Weitz, who is expecting their first child, confirmed on that doctors had been called to the couple's swanky home in Irene outside of Pretoria.

Weitz has moved in with her parents in Benoni after it came to light that Nel had visited a Pretoria prostitute four times since November 2007.
