Sauber driver Sergio Perez says collecting his first points in Formula One after finishing ninth in the Spanish Grand Prix will be a "turning point" in his debut F1 season.

Perez rose three places after starting 12th in Sunday’s race to pick up two points, becoming the first Mexican to receive points since Hector Rebaque came fourth at the 1981 Dutch GP.

Perez lauded his team’s strategy on the stops, saying: “Today is a turning point in this season — we will continue well and score points.”

Team principal Peter Sauber says Perez’s confidence will be boosted ahead of the Monaco GP next week, especially after being disqualified following his seventh-place finish at the season-opening Australian GP due to a rule infringement.
