The ACT Brumbies, rebuilding under new Springbok coach Jake White, have signed giant Joseph Tomane from Australia’s National Rugby League, the club said on Monday.

The former Melbourne Storm and Gold Coast Titans outside back said he was attracted to make the switch to rugby union with White now in charge of the Brumbies after their dismal 13th place finish this season.

Tomane, 21, will be one of the Brumbies’ biggest backs and was rewarded for his outstanding performances with selection in the Samoan rugby league train-on squad last year.

“I’m coming across for the challenge really, to be playing  Super Rugby and to be coached by Jake White and the rest of the coaching staff is really exciting for me,” Tomane said in a statement.
