This weekend winger Bryan Habana is set to get his 100th cap for the Springboks against Australia in the Rugby Championship. He will only be the fourth player in Springbok history and the first black player to amass a century of caps.

In an interview with the Sunday Times, Habana recalled some of his memorable games in the green and gold.  There were three moments that stood-out for the Johannesburg born winger.

  • His 2004 debut against England at Twickenham.
“No-one can take my debut away from me at the home of rugby,” said the 31 year-old about the game, where he also scored a try.

  • Winning the 2007 World Cup in France under Jake White is another of Habana’s stand-out moments in Springbok colours.
“The World Cup (2007) win was a highlight. For me the semi-final was the real pressure game because we didn’t know what to expect from Argentina,” he said. Habana scored two tries in that match against the South American side, equalling Jonah Lomu's record of 8 tries in one World Cup. The winger went on to win the IRB (International Rugby Board) Player of the year in the same year.

  • Winning the Tri-Nations in 2009 sticks-out as well for the winger.
“The win in Hamilton in 2009 was another highlight,” he said.  The Springboks claimed victory over the dominant All Blacks side 29-32 in New Zealand to be crowned Souther Hemisphere champions for the first time in five year.

The winger has also gone through a turbulent time during the 2008-2011 seasons where he couldn’t go over the try line, but his tenacity and hard work pulled him through.

“Being part of the 2015 World Cup is a long-term goal,” said the winger about his hopes of donning the green and gold at another World Cup, which will be hosted in England next year.
