Western Province coach John Dobson said that hooker Scarra Ntubeni would be out of rugby ‘for a long time’ after he suffered a suspected ruptured Achilles tendon at Newlands on Saturday. Ntubeni went down in agony midway through the first half against the Sharks and was stretchered off the field.“He is in a lot of pain‚ both physically and emotionally‚” Dobson said.“He’s going to be out of the game for a long time I’m afraid‚ although we’ll have an official diagnosis after he goes for scans.”It's a huge blow for Ntubeni‚ who has been on the fringes of Springbok selection for three seasons. With Bok skipper Adriaan Strauss announcing last week that he was retiring from Test rugby‚ a potential place had opened for Ntubeni.But he will now spend months in rehabilitation at a time when he needs to be playing.Bok coach Allister Coetzee omitted Ntubeni from the squad last month‚ saying that the hooker needed game time. That won't happen now.WP won the match 34-27 to inflict a first defeat on the Shark’s this season. And the Cape side had to do it without several other injured players.Centre Huw Jones failed to recover from a hamstring injury and was withdrawn from the team on Friday while star flank Sikhumbuzo Notshe also cried off during in the match with an unspecified injury. Dobson was forced to play a makeshift midfield pairing with Johnny Kotze at inside centre and EW Viljoen on the outside.The duo were in sparkling form with Kotze scoring the opening try of the match and Viljoen weighing in with a brace.Dobson confirmed that Jones should be available for next week's vital away match against the Lions at Ellis Park.The coach was also hugely impressed with SA Sevens star Werner Kok's contribution‚ which also saw him score his first try at this level.Prop Olli Kebble missed the match with hip flexor injury and is unlikely to play against the Lions.
