Boland director of rugby Zondagh quits citing 'excessive interference'

Boland’s director of rugby Alan Zondagh has parted ways with the union just days before their final match in the Currie Cup premier division against neighbours Western Province. Zondagh‚ a former WP and Saracens coach‚ who had been assisting the union in 2016‚ cited “excessive interference” from the Boland Rugby Union (BRU) board as the reason for his departure. Attempts to reach Zondagh and Boland president Ivan Pekeur were unsuccessful but Zondagh did release a statement. “Citing excessive interference by the board and the executive of the Boland Rugby Union‚ experienced coach Alan Zondagh has resigned from his post of Director of Rugby with immediate effect‚” the statement read. Boland qualified for the Currie Cup premier division this season – a vast improvement on their 2015 campaign in which they lost five out five matches in the Currie Cup first division. Zondagh’s statement claims that he was not paid to fulfil the director of rugby role and that he made his personal Rugby Performance Centre available to all Boland teams during the season...
