Wales striker Craig Bellamy has pulled out of this weekend’s friendly in Croatia with a calf injury.

Bellamy had been set to return to international action after a three-game absence, but the Manchester City star has been advised not to travel by medical staff and will stay at home for treatment.

The 30-year-old’s selection had been a surprise after Wales coach John Toshack suggested he would not pick his captain for friendlies.

Bellamy was overlooked for the last fixture against Sweden in March despite being fully fit, prompting speculation about the player’s international future.

Now he has become the seventh player to pull out of Sunday’s game in Osijek following James Collins, Danny Gabbidon, Simon Davies, Andy King, David Cotterill and Ched Evans.
