Frenchman Thierry Froger has resigned from his post as coach of Togo "for personal reasons", according to the Togolese Football Federation (FTF) on Wednesday.
“M. Froger asked federation chiefs on Tuesday to free him from his contract for personal reasons. He also waived any right to financial settlement,” the FTF’s head of communication Komlan Ekpe said.
“The Federation agreed to this proposal the same day.”
Froger replaced compatriot Hubert Velud when he signed an 18-month long deal in June 2010.
However the Frenchman has been subject to harsh criticism in the media in recent weeks as Togo continue their mediocre qualifying campaign for the 2012 African Cup of Nations.
Togo are currently fourth in group K with three points and are behind Botswana (13 pts), Tunisia (7) and Malawi (6). Chad is last in the group on two points.
Froger, 48, has coached several clubs in France including Le Mans (1994-1997), Lille (1997-1998), Chateauroux (1999-2003), FC Geugnon (2003-2004) and Reims (2005-2008).
