Strikers Noko Matlou and captain Amanda Dlamini netted a brace each as Banyana Banyana beat Malawi 5-1 in their Cosafa Women’s Championships semi-final at Rufaro Stadium in Harare on Thursday.
The South African senior women’s side will play in the final at the same venue on Saturday.
Malawi took an early lead in the match through Chawinga Tabitha in the 17th minute after bad defending by the South Africans.
Banyana levelled matters after midfielder Gabisile Hlumbane set-up Matlou to beat Malawian goalkeeper Msiska Alice four minutes later.
Matlou then turned supplier for Dlamini to give Banyana the lead in the 25th minute before completing her brace in the 62nd minute.
The fourth goal came from midfielder Yola Jafta in the 85th minute after poor defending from the Malawians.
Matlou scored her second in the 89th minute, converting a penalty after substitute midfielder Robyn Moodaly was fouled in the penalty area.
“We started the match slowly, but it’s not about how a team starts but how they finish and I am happy with that,” said Banyana coach Joseph Mkhonza after the match.
“We came here with a mission to retain the trophy and everything still looks to be on course.”
