Banyana departs for Namibia tonight

Banyana Banyana will depart for Namibia tonight on a charter flight headed directly for Windhoek ahead of the start of the 9th edition of the African Women’s Championships (AWC).

Vera Pauw’s team will board an 8pm flight at the OR Tambo International and touch down in Windhoek two hours later at 10pm – giving them a full five days of fine tuning their preparations and acclimatising to conditions.

Banyana have been drawn in the “Group of Death” together with Cameroon, Algeria and Ghana. They face Cameroon in their opening match of the group on Sunday, 12 October at the Independence Stadium.

The championships will also be used as qualifiers for the 2015 Fifa Women's World Cup.

Only the top three finishers at the tournament will automatically qualify to compete at the World Cup, scheduled to be held in Canada next year.
