Maritzburg United have tried to make contact with Stuart Baxter in a bid to lure him back to the Premier Soccer League to as head coach, according to chairman Farouk Kadodia.

Kadodia told KickOff on Wednesday that they have tried phoning the former Kaizer Chiefs coach but his mobile phone is off.

United have also tried to reach Baxter via his intermediary to no avail.

“Trust me, we have tried Stuart Baxter but his phone is off. We also tried him via his agent but nothing happened,” Kadodia tells this website.

“Obviously for him to come here would also mean taking a salary cut because Kaizer Chiefs is a financial stronghold. But we are still looking and making enquiries.

“We are looking for an astute manager and I’m sure we will appoint someone within seven days.”

Maritzburg parted ways with Mandla Ncikazi earlier this week after a poor start to the season in which the club failed to win in five matches, leaving them rock bottom after four league games.
