Former Bafana Bafana midfielder and Africa Cup of Nations winner John ‘Shoes’ Moshoeu, who is in a serious condition in a Johannesburg hospital as doctors treats a problem with his kidneys, is responding well to treatment.

A spokesperson for the Charlotte Maxeke hospital, where Moshoeu was hospitalised three weeks ago, assured the nation that the former Kaizer Chiefs and AmaZulu player continues to receive treatment in the private ward of the hospital after rumours on social media flew on Tuesday suggesting he has passed away.

"He's been here for over a month. The report we had on Tuesday was that he's still here and he's responding well to treatment," said the hospital's Lungiswa Mvumvu.

"When I say he's responding well it means the condition he was in when he was admitted is slowly improving. He's conscious now.

"Unfortunately, I can neither disclose his condition nor disclose what's wrong with him. The family will give a statement when they have time."
