Kaizer Motaung has pointed a finger at agents for the delay relating to player contracts.

The Kaizer Chiefs supremo said player agents are the ones who are creating some of the challenges because “they obviously have certain tactics to delay the process to get into the [last] six months of the contract because then they have a better leverage in terms of contracts,” KickOff reported on Monday.

Key players Itumeleng Khune, Tefu Mashamaite and Mandla Masango are yet to sign new contracts with Chiefs, despite their deals expiring at the end of June.

“We know the intricacies of contract renewals. If I tell you that we started negotiating with some of our players a year ago, you won’t believe me, but there is another element that plays a part in negotiations – there is what you call intermediaries today. They are no longer called agents,” Motaung explains.

“That’s what creates a problem, but obviously they do it for themselves because they have an industry where they gain from.
