Maritzburg United midfielder Mondli Cele has passed away after he was involved in a car accident in Pietermaritzburg on Saturday evening.

The 27-year-old, who scored the opening goal in the Team of Choice’s 3-3 thriller at home to Orlando Pirates at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Saturday night, made his Premier Soccer League debut in the 2014/15 season.

United chairman Farouk Kadodia confirmed the sad news to Power FM Sport on Sunday morning.

Cele had made eight appearances for United so far this and scored two goals.
