The French-based striker, who has eights caps and one goal for the senior national team, courted controversy in June 2015 when he rebuffed a national team call-up for the 2017 African Cup of Nations qualifier against Gambia to replace striker Tokelo Rantie, who was forced to withdraw due to a personal commitment.

  • Kermit Erasmus opens up about 'I'm no back-up player' tweet Orlando Pirates striker Kermit Erasmus has finally opened up on his notorious "I'm no back-up player" tweet which was an aimed barb at Bafana Bafana head coach Shakes Mashaba.

Erasmus, who joined Lique1 side Rennes earlier this year, then took to his Twitter account to express: "I'm no back-up player".

Erasmus sent yet another not-so-subtle message to head coach Shakes Mashaba on Tuesday, citing that he will not be available for selection for the national team "at the moment" via his official twitter account.

Asked by a Twitter user on Tuesday if he is still available to play for Bafana, the 25-year-old Port Elizabeth-born striker ruled himself out for selection “at the moment.”

Erasmus scored 13 goals in 51 matches for the Buccaneers before he left for France. He has eight Bafana Bafana caps and has scored one goal for the national team.

The stocky striker has seen little first team action since joining Rennes in January but he says he is determined to work hard and fight for a place in the team.
