BidVest Wits sign Eleazar Rodgers and Pentjies Zulu

Bidvest Wits have confirmed the completion of their first two signings in what is expected to be a busy transfer window for the club.Wits are seeking to strengthen their squad for a dual onslaught on a first-ever league title next season plus a debut in the African Champions League.Eleazar Rodgers and Pentjies Zulu have both been snapped up on free transfers as their contracts with their previous clubs have run out.Once in the hunt for glory, Gavin Hunt's now a shadow of himselfOnce upon a time Gavin Hunt had the strength of Hercules and ruled the Premier Soccer League roost with a hat-trick of championships between 2008 and 2010. Rodgers‚ who won two caps for South Africa in matches against Malawi in 2007 and 2008‚ joins last season's league runners-up from Platinum Stars while Zulu is from Jomo Cosmos.Pentjies ZuluThe left-sided wingback Zulu was one of the few promising payers in the relegated Cosmos team.The 26-year-old made 24 starts and scored once for Cosmos in the recently completed season.He had been with them for three years having moved to Johannesburg from the East London-based Blackburn Rovers.Rodgers will fill the classic target man role that is likely to be vacated by Henrico Botes and Joaquim Lupeta‚ both set to be released by Wits at the end of this month.The 31-year-old Rodgers has scored 65 goals in all competitions in 191 starts since his debut at Santos in 2006‚ when he scored on his debut in the Top Eight Cup competition against Mamelodi Sundowns.Rodgers later played for Sundowns for a season and then spent the next campaign on loan at Ajax Cape Town before two seasons with high-flying Stars.- TMG Digital..
