Senong polishes up set-pieces ahead of SA's African Championship qualifier

Under-20 coach Thabo Senong has been working on set-pieces and quick counter movement drills to ensure his Amajita charges are ready when South Africa take on Lesotho in their African Championship qualifier in Maseru on Sunday. It is the tie to ensure qualification for next year’s African Youth Championship in Zambia‚ and South Africa will be seeking a positive result away in the mountain kingdom to have in the bank for the return leg at home near the end of the month.Senong spied on the Basotho side recently and says they are physically imposing with a tough-tackling defence and two speedy strikers.He anticipates a physical battle and to that end wants to be able to make good use of the set-piece situations that are bound to present themselves.Senong confident Young Bafana have enough in the tank to get past NamibiaSouth African Under-20 team coach Thabo Senong is confident his side have what it takes to overcome Namibia in the second leg of their 2017 CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations second round qualifier at FNB Stadium in Saturday. Senong said his charges are confident‚ even though injuries to fullback Notha Ngcobo and Wits striker Luvuyo Mkatshana have come as a blow.“There has been a mood of confidence in the camp and the preparations have gone well‚” he said on Thursday.Senong has been taking his side through their paces on the artificial turf at the Nike Training Centre in Soweto as Sunday’s first leg will be played on a plastic top at the Sesotho Stadium.The team travels to Maseru on Saturday and returns home on Monday.SA continues the bid to qualify for the Under-20 FIFA World CupSouth Africa’s under-20 team will have home advantage for the second leg of their African Youth Championship qualifying tie and‚ bolstered by the inclusion of key players‚ are expected to dispense with neighbours Namibia and advance to the next stage. South Africa beat Namibia 2-0 on aggregate in the previous round of qualifiers while Lesotho eliminated Mozambique 2-1 on aggregate at the same time.The winner of the tie joins seven other countries at the African Youth Championship in Zambia next March from where the top four finishers go onto the U-20 World Cup in South Korea. - TMG Digital..
