Footballers who failed to secure deadline day transfers now face uncertain futures

01 September 2016 - 14:37 By Nick Said

With the transfer window now closed‚ a number of players have been left wondering what might have been as they remain marooned at club’s who have made it clear they are surplus to requirements. The only hope for these players‚ before the next window in January‚ is to negotiate the termination of their contracts and move on as free agents.Mamelodi Sundowns defender Rheece Evans was again denied a move after Cape Town City could not agree a fee for his services having been keen to capture the fullback. It was the same story at the start of last season when Evans had looked set for a move to Ajax Cape Town‚ only for the clubs not to agree a fee.Evans arrived at Sundowns in 2014 from Maritzburg United and has made just two substitute appearances in domestic matches since‚ the last almost two years ago. He did play for Sundowns’ fringe players in their dead-rubber African Champions League clash against Nigeria in Enyimba last month‚ but the arrival of Anele Ngcongca on Wednesday pushes him even further down the pecking order.Mukuka Mulenga‚ Sibusiso Kumalo‚ Ejike Uzoenyi‚ Luyolo Nomandela and Lindokuhle Mbatha are other players at Sundowns who appear to have no future with their first team.Defender Siyanda Xulu has been challenged to fight for his place by coach Steve Komphela and an injury to Erick Mathoho at Kaizer Chiefs may open the slimmest of doors for him. What may have been preferential‚ given that he has not featured in either of Chiefs’ match-day squads this season‚ was a move away from the club‚ though his hefty wage is a deterrent to potential suitors. Siyabonga Mpontshane looks to be fourth-choice goalkeeper at Orlando Pirates behind Felipe Ovono‚ Jackson Mabokgwane and Brighton Mhlongo‚ though you never know what the thinking of coach Ertugral is having selected the erratic Ovono for the first two games.Thamsanqa Teyise had been hoping for a move to Cape Town City but failed to win a transfer before the deadline and must now return to Pretoria‚ where the arrival of Tefu Mashamaite has pushed him even further down the pecking order. The club have Mario Booysen‚ Grant Kekana‚ Clayton Daniels‚ Morgan Gould and Denwin Farmer who can also fill in at centre-back.Moving to Europe and Thulani Serero remains marooned at Ajax Amsterdam despite the club cutting their asking price to 500‚000 Euros in the final week of the window.Jack Wilshere joins Bournemouth on loan from ArsenalArsenal's England midfielder Jack Wilshere, who has suffered a string of injuries, has joined Bournemouth on a season-long loan, the Premier League clubs said on Wednesday. He has not been given a jersey number in Amsterdam this season.Andile Jali had been open and hopeful of a move away from Belgian club Oostende‚ but a lack of serious interest means he remains. The same for Mandla Masango‚ who had stopped training with Danish side Randers over his unhappiness that the club had turned down an offer for him from Aalborg‚ making it clear he wanted to leave. That status quo remains and whether he will play any football before January‚ a period that includes World Cup qualifiers‚ remains to be seen. - TMG Digital..
