May Mahlangu finally finds a club in Romania

08 September 2016 - 19:07 By Nick Said

May Mahlangu’s at times tortuous search for a new club is finally over after he completed a move to top Romanian side Dinamo Bucharest on Thursday. The Bafana Bafana midfielder had turned down a number of opportunities in the last few months after leaving Belgian side Sint Truiden at the end of last season.Mahlangu has signed a three-year deal having turned down offers at German Bundesliga II side Dynamo Dresden‚ as well as Randers in Denmark‚ the home of Mandla Masango.Times Media Digital also understands that Mahlangu was open to a move to Kaizer Chiefs‚ but that the Soweto club failed to make an offer to the player despite reports in the media to the contrary.Dinamo Bucharest are the second-most successful club in Romania after city rivals Steaua‚ having won 18 championships‚ though the last came in 2006-07.They finished runners-up in the league last season and have made an unbeaten start to the new campaign with three wins and three draws from their six matches. The club qualified for this season’s Uefa Europa League but were not granted a license to play by European authorities over financial challenges that the club now claims they have resolved.Mahlangu is a product of the Stars of Africa Academy and also played for Alexandra United. He moved to Swedish side Helsingborg in 2008 when he was still a teenager and looked set to be a major star in Europe‚ but a bad Achilles tendon injury in 2013 set back his ambitions. He won the last of his 15 caps for the country against Angola in a friendly in June last year. - TMG Digital..
