Zambian FA release Zesco coach from national duty to 'concentrate on Sundowns in Caf semi'

The Football Association of Zambian (FAZ) have released Zesco United coach George Lwandamina from his dual post as national team coach so he can concentrate on the Caf Champions League semifinal against Mamelodi Sundowns. Lwandamina has been holding both positions.Zambia have failed to qualify for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.FAZ released Lwandamina‚ the 53-year-old 1980s Chipolopolo international‚ from his post and replaced him with former Kaizer Chiefs striker Wedson Nyirenda as an interim replacement.Zesco’s CEO‚ Justin Mumba‚ said the ZFA’s decision has been “respected and welcomed” by the club.“The decision by FAZ is welcome and it will give the coach enough time to concentrate on the team [Zesco]‚” Mumba told the club’s website.“His contract is still valid and he is a full-time employee of Zesco. So the separation means he will now concentrate on the team full time‚ especially now that the team is in a crucial stage of the Champions League.”Sundowns meet dangerous Zesco at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola in Saturday’s first leg of the semifinal (3.30pm).The return leg is at Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville on Saturday‚ September 24.- TMG Digital..
