'It's rubbish, I'm still Golden Arrows coach,' says Clinton Larsen

27 September 2016 - 16:32 By Marc Strydom

Clinton Larsen is very much alive and kicking as the coach of Lamontville Golden Arrows‚ he says‚ and has no idea where reports might have emerged to the contrary. A media report speculated that Larsen had been fired on Tuesday‚ despite Arrows being the Premier Soccer League’s early table leaders with three wins and a defeat from four matches. Larsen said he could not understand why reports might emerge of his sacking following three victories in succession. After starting the season with a 3-1 away defeat against Orlando Pirates‚ the Durban team went on to beat Cape Town City 2-0 at home‚ then Free State Stars 1-0 and Bloemfontein Celtic 2-1 in difficult matches on the road in the Free State. “No‚ no‚ it’s rubbish‚” Larsen said of the report on Tuesday.“I just had a nice training session with my boys and I was joking and said‚ ‘I didn’t know I was fired’. “We’ve just had three win in a row and I’ve got such a good working relationship with everybody at the club. “But this often happens when teams are doing well and you get these stories that pop up from time to time. It’s not the first time – we’ve seen it all before and heard it all before. We’ll just got on and do what we do. “You never know where it comes from. People sometimes try to destabilise teams who are doing well.” Larsen joined Arrows in December 2015 to replace Serame Letsoaka – who had moved to Celtic – and guided Abafana Bes’thende to ninth place in the PSL in 2015-16. Arrows chairwoman Mato Madlala has denied reports of Larsen’s sacking. - TMG Digital..
