Kaizer Chiefs have begun negotiations over a new contract for influential midfielder Reneilwe Letsholonyane, according to the club’s football manager Bobby Motaung.

The 33-year-old current deal with the Premier Soccer League title holders expire at the end of June, but the it was reported in February that the Bafana Bafana star has already agreed for a new contract in principle.

Letsholonyane, a end-of-the-season target for SuperSport United coach Stuart Baxter, is on his way back to full fitness according to the club’s medical team after being sidelined with a knee problem.

“We are in negotiations with Yeye,” Football Manager Motaung revealed on kaizerchiefs.com on Tuesday.

“We will make announcements on all player movements in due course.”

On Letsholonyane’s process of rehabilitation to get back to action, the club’s medical team said: “We are taking it step-by-step to ensure that he recovers completely. The duration of this rehabilitation process differs from one player to another.”
