Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane proves he's not a man of empty promises

By saying this about a year ago and then delivering here on Wednesday night‚ Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has proven he's not a man of empty promises.Sundowns had not even finished celebrating their Nedbank Cup final victory over Ajax Cape Town in Port Elizabeth last season when Mosimane uttered these words to make sure everyone heard him loud and clear. It really hurt him that Sundowns lost the Absa Premiership title they won in 2013/2014 to Kaizer Chiefs‚ and so he vowed to have the coveted trophy back in the cabinet at Chloorkop.True to his word‚ Mosimane delivered the biggest prize in local football on Wednesday night with a 3-0 victory over University of Pretoria‚ the club's seventh title in the PSL era with two matches to spare. They are kings of local football again and no one deserves it more.A second league title is in the bag for Mosimane as he continues to inspire fellow black coaches who dream of working for big clubs and winning trophies. To think this is a man Sundowns fans wanted out at some point this season‚ but now they sing: “Pitso‚ Pitso‚ Pitso…”IN PICTURES: Sundowns owner Patrice Motsepe celebrate winning PSL title with fansMamelodi Sundowns were crowned Absa Premiership Champions on Wednesday evening after a 3-0 win over University of Pretoria at the Tuks Stadium. Sundowns clinched it in fine style and got the job done in the first half on Wednesday night‚ much like they have been doing all season long.It was clear that Sundowns wanted to get the job done as soon as possible after Bidvest Wits slipped up on Tuesday‚ and it took them just three minutes to open the scoring. Anthony Laffor tapped home from close range after some horrible defending from the hosts.Laffor's second in the 18th minute was another simple tap-in‚ but the build-up to that goal was something special‚ a touch of brilliance from Khama Billiat.Billiat's first touch after receiving a long ball from Keagan Dolly was exquisite. He then left Tuks captain Willem Mwedihanga sprawling in his wake before crossing the ball into the box for Laffor to finish. It was like watching a repeat of the many goals Sundowns have scored this season. They usually involve Billiat and he uses his quality to set up a teammate and score. The third goal was another Billiat set up‚ as Laffor completed his hat trick with a cool finish inside the box on the hour mark.If anyone had any doubts‚ Billiat showed why he's a hot favourite to win the player of the season award. Tuks just had no way of coming back‚ but that has usually been the story for teams that have played against Sundowns this season.Few teams have been able to match Sundowns‚ especially when Billiat‚ Dolly‚ Leonardo Castro and Hlompho Kekana are involved. They've made it look far too easy at times this season and one wonders who will be able to stop them next season with a squad as good as this one.Clearly there was no reason for Mosimane to worry about the departure of influential captain Alje Schut at the end of last season. They hardly missed him because the likes of Wayne Arendse and Thabo Nthethe stepped up to the plate. With 20 victories and three defeats‚ Sundowns are worthy champions. – TMG Digital..
