Void left by colossal Kaizer Chiefs defender felt this season

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder George Lebese has admitted that the team missed the leadership of influential defender Tefu Mashamaite in a season in which Amakhosi tamely surrendered the Absa Premiership title. Mashamaite was a huge figure at the heart of defence last season, but Chiefs coach Steve Komphela was unable to find a solid back four this season due to injuries, suspensions and a general lack of form.Amakhosi finished the campaign with 38 goals scored, 30 conceded and had more draws than wins."[Mashamaite] is obviously a quality player and we missed him. We won trophies when he was here and we kept a lot of clean sheets because he is a good defender and he is a leader. But we have players like [Lorenzo] Gordinho, who are capable of doing the job," Lebese said. "We did not show up this season and we know our mistakes."We could have managed our games properly, like the mistakes we make and conceding from set-pieces. We have to come out stronger next season. Now we have to be the ones that hunt for the trophy. I think there's going to be a lot of changes, so we hope we can make the fans happy."Amakhosi have already lost key midfielder Reneilwe Letsholonyane to Supersport United and need to urgently find a replacement for him to make sure they don't repeat their mistakes...
