Gabadinho Mhango gave a timely reminder on Sunday night of just what BidVest Wits will be getting next season with a hat-trick for Malawi in their 3-0 COSAFA Castle Cup Group B win against Angola. Granted‚ this Angolan side was mostly made up of the country’s Under-20 players‚ including 15-year-old goalkeeper Eduardo Joao Bunga. But Mhango’s movement‚ pace and powerful shooting made him the stand-out player on the pitch. He might have got more than three goals as well had it not been for Bunga‚ who showed maturity well beyond his years to keep the scoreline somewhat respectable.Siwelele send Mhango packing after deal soursIrate Bloemfontein Celtic boss Max Tshabalala has kicked Gabadinho Mhango out of the club - and his residence - after the Malawian striker signed a pre-contract agreement with Bidvest Wits. Wits coach Gavin Hunt has already spoken of his eagerness to see Mhango in a Clever Boys jersey after the player signed a pre-contract to join the club in January. That saw Bloemfontein Celtic release him from his contract early‚ after which he spent a topsy-turvy five months at Lamontville Golden Arrows.“He will give us more pace‚ more movement‚ he will give us something different‚” Hunt said of his acquisition‚ before hinting that he would be the lead striker at the club this coming season.“When you sign a foreigner‚ he has to start. That has been a problem for us this past season. Your foreigners must start.”Mhango blew hot and cold at Golden Arrows‚ as he has done for much of his time in the Premier Soccer League.Mhango: diamond in the roughStocky, quick and a hard runner, Bloemfontein Celtic's Gabadinho Mhango is a rough diamond who could just develop into a polished gem. Signed by Celtic ahead of the 2013/14 campaign‚ he produced nine goals in his 15 starts for the club that season. But the following 18 months was uninspiring to say the least as he battled with consistency. He scored five goals at Golden Arrows‚ but four of those were in one game against Mpumalanga Black Aces and he failed to find the back of the net in another 13 appearances. His hat-trick on Sunday‚ with one goal coming from the penalty-spot‚ broke a number of national team records. It was the first time he has got three goals in a game for his country‚ the first time a player from Malawi has netted more than one goal in a COSAFA Castle Cup match and also equalled their biggest margin of victory in the competition. Moreover‚ they inflicted a biggest ever defeat on Angola in the Southern African championship.Malawi are now favourites to top Group B and that will set up a meeting with South Africa in the quarterfinals on Saturday.Should they make it‚ it will be another chance for Mhango to show his qualities against PSL opposition.- TMG Digital..
