Golden Arrows step up pursuit of Chicken Inn star

19 July 2016 - 18:04 By Nick Said

Clinton Larsen was happy with the weekend work of his Lamontville Golden Arrows side as the club continues to mull over at least two more signings ahead of the new season.Arrows have already made several signings during the off season and their pursuit of Zimbabwe international midfielder Danny Phiri is still alive.Larsen's charges were victorious in the Uthukela Mayoral Cup pre-season tournament on Sunday‚ their first run-out of the pre-season after three weeks of hard physical work‚ and could play four more games in the coming days as well.Abafana Bes’thende have two friendly matches against National First Division side Royal Eagles on Thursday‚ and then take part in the Uthungulu Mayoral Cup on Saturday where they face second-tier Thanda Royal Zulu in the semifinals. AmaZulu and Bloemfontein Celtic are the other two clubs in the competition. “The boys did relatively well at the weekend‚ we beat a strong Free Stats Stars team in the semifinals that had the likes of Danny Venter‚ Katlego Mashego‚ Paulus Masehe and Moketsi Sekola playing‚” Larsen told Times Media Digital.“It was a good exercise for us in the third week of our pre-season training. In the final we played a local select team from Ladysmith and won 3-0‚ though in that game we played most of our [MultiChoice] Diski Challenge players.”Golden Arrows were the first side back at work for pre-season and Larsen says the reason he wanted an extended build-up to the new campaign was to properly integrate new signings such as Lerato Lamola‚ Wayde Jooste and Limbikani Mzava. “The more games we play the better the understanding between the players will be. It is going to be a busy time between now and the start of the season.”Larsen confirmed that the club are still hoping to sign a midfielder and a striker‚ and says their pursuit of Chicken Inn star Phiri‚ who captained Zimbabwe at the recent COSAFA Castle Cup‚ remains on-going.“We are expecting two more players to come in‚ a midfielder and a striker. With regards to Phiri‚ the two clubs are still engaging. But we are also weighing up our options in that position.” - TMG Digital..
