Cape Town City owner Comitis’ mixed feelings about start to PSL season

Cape Town City owner John Comitis said he was both pleased and disappointed with the start made by the new club‚ who missed out on a chance on Tuesday to become the first side this season to get to double figures in the points tally in the Absa Premiership. “If you had said to me before the season started that you would give me eight points from my first five matches‚ I would have taken it‚” he said after City let slip the lead in a 1-1 draw with Highlands Park in Tembisa.“That was kind-of my only worry with this whole move‚ just how the first team would perform. I’ve been out of the game for a while‚ so you never quite know if you can measure up to the levels. If you had told me that from the outset‚ I would have taken it.“I’m disappointed‚ though‚ because we’ve had the chance to do better than that. At Pirates last week we had chances; against Ajax on Friday‚ we had chances to extend the lead and then against Highlands enough chances to have sealed the game and kept the lead.“We slacked off‚ we didn’t have the same urgency we showed the other week. That’s why I’m disappointed but I’ve got to be happy overall.”Collins Mbesuma sends out ominous warning after reaching 100 PSL goalsCenturion Collins Mbesuma issued an ominous warning to opposing defences after reaching a milestone of 100 goals in all Premier Soccer League competitions on Tuesday night. Three matches in the last seven days‚ admitted Comitis‚ had been taxing on the players‚ who made two trips to Johannesburg inside a week.“Plus there were three extra fixtures in the MTN8 for us‚ although in one way it was good because we could at least get things right in those games but‚ on the other hand‚ it has cost us a bit.“Now we have a few extra injuries and we have to draft in a few new players‚ which is fine. That is how the game is. We have a break now so we’ll take advantage of that.”Comitis said he had already started working on strengthening his side in the January transfer.“I’ve seen where the problems could be. We’ve already signed one extra right back (Thamsanqa Mkhize) as cover and we’ll be looking at more cover‚” he added.City’s next fixture is home to newly promoted Baroka FC on Saturday‚ October 15. – TMG Sport..
