July 18 should be stocktake of a year of good deeds: iLIVE

Mathlodi Malope, by e-mail | 19 July, 2012 00:01
Former president Nelson Mandela

No president in any country has garnered global respect in the way Nelson Mandela has.

The Nelson Mandela Foundation initiated the 67 minutes of good deeds campaign in his honour.

However, lending a helping hand to those in need should be what we aspire to do daily.

On July 18 companies and individuals should celebrate their annual milestones of good deeds.

They should use the day to identify how they will contribute to improving the lives of many people in need until the following July 18.

Public servants should feel honoured for being entrusted with providing services .

It is a responsibility they need to undertake with the utmost commitment and dedication.

They should share ideas on how best to demonstrate patriotism and humanity .

A public servant's commitment is to ensure that Batho Pele principles are intrinsic to his or her work and encounters with the public.
