Solange flies under radar
US singer and fashionista Solange Knowles managed to slip surreptitiously into Cape Town untroubled yesterday afternoon to shoot the cover of Elle magazine's November issue.
But the 26-year-old I Decided singer didn't manage to escape the YFM presenter Bonang Matheba's trained eye.
Matheba happened to be on the same flight as Knowles, and spoke to her upon arrival at Cape Town International.
"She was so cool, even if she looked very tired," Matheba said.
"I walked past her, then I walked back and I said: 'Hi, are you Solange?' and she said yes, and I asked her what she was doing in the country, and she told me she was shooting Elle's November cover."
Dressed in orange pants and a denim shirt, Knowles stood untroubled at the carousel with an unidentified friend, before coming out with a Louis Vuitton roller and being whisked away by a driver.
The magazine's editor, Jackie Burger, refused to confirm whether the star was shooting its cover, but confirmed Knowles had been picked up from the airport.
Elle's Twitter account continuously hinted at a "top secret" star - even senior fashion editor Poppy Evans tweeted: "You are never going to guess who's flown in to pay @ELLEmagazineSA a visit! All will be revealed soon! #topsecret".
Knowles' avant-garde fashion sense has made her a favourite with critics - and she recently followed in Alexa Chung's footsteps, by becoming the face of 75-year-old denim makers Madewell.
It is her first major campaign for a fashion label - she also signed with top modelling agency Next Models at the beginning of the year.
Capetonian Justin Polkey, who has photographed actors Sir Ian McKellen and Billy Zane, has been commissioned to do the shoot.
