EXPELLED ANC Youth League leader Julius Malema has hinted he will take the ruling party to court if his expulsion is not rescinded by delegates to the ANC national elective conference in Mangaung.

Malema, suspended league secretary Sindiso Maqaga and spokesman Floyd Shivambu, have submitted a letter to the ANC conference, asking it to reverse the sanctions against them.

"We wrote this letter to the national conference as a platform that should deliberate and look into our disciplinary hearing before we explore other options to seek fair hearing and justice, because, as loyal members, we are expected to exhaust all internal ANC processes before we explore any other platforms," the letter reads.

It is clear from the letter that the three do not trust the current youth league leadership that is supposed to raise the issue on their behalf.

Earlier yesterday, acting youth league president Ronald Lamola expressed shock at the submission of the letter, saying the league would no longer raise the fate of the three at the conference.

As the ANC's highest decision-making body, the conference has the power to reverse the sanctions against Malema and his cohorts.

Shivambu said yesterday that he had it on good authority that the conference, through secretary-general Gwede Mantashe and the steering committee, had received the letter. By late yesterday, the conference had not discussed their submission.

The three believe that conference delegates should take into consideration that they have remained loyal supporters of the ANC, even after their punishment earlier this year.

They say they have avoided the option of going to court and believe that discipline should never be used to suppress political dissent in the ANC.

The trio wrote: "We have thus far withdrawn our participation in the formal structures of the ANC and ANC Youth League, despite the resolution of the ANC Youth League that we remain its leaders until the ANC Youth League 25th national congress in 2014."

They want to be reinstated as members of the ANC and ANC Youth League, and to their leadership positions in the league.

Malema wants to serve again on the Limpopo executive committee of the ANC.

He was elected to the provincial executive earlier this year but had to vacate his position following his expulsion from the party.
