Bloemfontein Celtic were yesterday considering what action to take against goalkeeper Patrick Tignyemb after he physically attacked teammate Wandisile Letlabika during their game against Sundowns on Sunday.

The two were involved in a comical defensive error that enabled Sundowns to win the match 1-0.

Letlabika's lethargy in defence saw him caught in possession, forcing him to make a shallow back pass that Tignyemb tried to scramble to safety - instead he set up Sundowns for their 74th-minute winner. An angry Tignyemb berated Letlabika, and twice pushed him violently.

Bloemfontein Celtic CEO Khumbulani Konco said the decision would be communicated once it had been reached.

The laws of the game say violent conduct against an opponent, a teammate or the referee is regarded as wrong in all instances.

By rights, Tignyemb should have been sent off by referee Victor Hlungwani. Celtic assistant coach Fadlu Davids said while he understood Tignyemb's anger, his actions were unacceptable.

The goalkeeper could also face possible prosecution by the PSL for bringing the league into disrepute.
