A collection of photographs of Africans taken 120 years ago have been dug out of archives to show their experience of colonial Britain.

These photographs, last seen publicly in 1891, are on display at the Black Chronicles exhibition in London. Many of them show young South African singers who toured Britain in the late 19th century.

The photographs were printed from plate-glass negatives when photography was a recent invention.
