Harry Potter author JK Rowling sparked speculation by posting a cryptic anagram on Twitter that suggests that the boy magician might make a comeback.

But there are also claims, fuelled by Rowling herself, that the answer to the anagram had more to do with a spin-off film involving the fictional "magizoologist" Newt Scamander, author of one of Harry's textbooks, Fantastic Beasts andWhere to Find Them, mentioned in the first Potter book.

It eventually transpired that Rowling was actually referring to a new film focusing on the life of Newt. The story will take place in New York, 70 years before the events of the Harry Potter books, dashing fans' hopes that Potter would return.

Speculation about a Potter revival started after Rowling posted the puzzle on Monday morning, teasing fans with the message "Something to ponder while I'm away X".

"Cry, foe! Run amok! Fa awry! My wand won't tolerate this nonsense," said her cryptic tweet.
