The convenience of the cashless service known as Uber has reached new heights with the launch of UberCHOPPER in Cape Town.

Uber, the service that allows users in 45 countries to get a taxi via a smartphone application, has expanded its reach to heli-copter rides.

The helicopter service is similar to the taxi offering. A request is made through your Uber account, rendering the transaction cashless.

Actor and comedian Siv Ngesi said the service was great if you wanted to impress a girlfriend or wife.

The Dancing With the Stars participant is part of the #uberCHOPPER promotional campaign with presenter Jeannie D.

Asked whether he had taken his girlfriend for a ride yet, Ngesi responded, "Girls think you're going to propose if you take them on a helicopter."

Ngesi was impressed with the chopper ride he took with Jeannie D on Friday.

"It was mind-blowing to see the stadium, mountain and other things from that height."

He said he would definitely do it again - "as soon as it's free".

Some joked about the new service on Twitter , saying it was only for the wealthy.

Jabulani @papa_action wrote: "If you can't see the #UberChopper option on your Uber app, you're probably not the target market."

The uberCHOPPER will operate until March 31 next year. It costs R3500 for a Peninsula tour and R1800 for a Two Oceans tour. A custom tour is also available.
