The FoodWineDesign Fair returns to Johannesburg rebranded as Handmade Contemporary Fair, bringing visitors a great food, drink and shopping experience.

THE FoodWineDesign Fair returns to Johannesburg rebranded as Handmade Contemporary Fair, bringing visitors a great food, drink and shopping experience.

A: Artisan. This is what the Handmade Contemporary Fair is all about.

B: Botanicals. Indigenous Cape fynbos flavours Inverroche gins, liqueurs and spiced rums.

C: Chefs in the city. Three top chefs - David Higgs (The Saxon), Michael Holenstein (De Hoek Country House) and Thom Hughes (The Griffin restaurant) - prepare their signature dishes for visitors, each on a different day.

D: Design. Fair favourites are Missibaba bags, A Love Supreme stationery, Goet and Henna furniture, Jane Sews clothes and many more.

E: Esposito, Natural Foods are made and grown in the Drakensberg's Kamberg Valley.

F: A focus on Franschhoek. Delights from Café des Arts; French cheese platters from Fromages de France; treats from Huguenot Fine Chocolates; Anthonij Rupert, Black Elephant Vintners, Vrede en Lust and Grand Provence show their wines; and master potter David Walters exhibits his ceramic tableware.

G: Gwefey Asian Cuisine's hand-pulled noodle expert serves up the traditional dish.

H: Honest Chocolate's wrapping is as enjoyable as the contents, handmade in Cape Town using only the finest raw, organic Ecuadorian cacao.

I: Ice cream. Salted Caramel & Fudge, Cream Cheese & Red Velvet and Roasted Banana & Oreo are just a few of the flavours on sale at Paul's Homemade Ice Cream.

J: Jewellery abounds from designers Henriette Botha, Pichulik, Dear Rae and the Zulu beadwork project. Kirsten Goss is exhibiting her latest Shaman collection.

K: Kuhestan Organic Farm in the Magoebaskloof produces fresh organic products and delicious cordials.

L: Linen and tableware from Toka Linen, which also does cushions, slip covers and curtains.

M: Meat. The Braeside Meat Boutique, Richard Bosman Quality Cured Meats and Soul Souvlaki are three of the stalls serving meaty treats.

N: New name. The FoodWineDesign Fair changed its name this year to the Handmade Contemporary Fair to highlight the workmanship and effort that goes into each item exhibited.

O: Ooh la la Artisan Confectionerycreated in the traditional artisanal European way, slowly in copper cauldrons and cast-iron pots with delicious natural ingredients.

P: Italy's Pesto Champion, Roberto Panizza, famed for Genovese basil pesto, demonstrates his technique.

Q: Questions. Ask chef Susan Grieg anything. She's this year's House and Garden Gourmet at the fair.

R: Roasted coffee from 4th Avenue Coffee Roasters and Father Coffee will have visitors buzzing around the stalls.

S: Sustainable produce is big. Find Coobs and The Counter to try their healthy fare.

T: Tutto Food Co specialises in flavourful paellas.

U: Unique gifts include ceramics from the Ceramic Factory, leather goods from Dark Horse, painted scarves from L'Mad and bespoke stationery from Elephant Shoe.

V: Vinegar is made by the Really Interesting Food Co, which also makes beautifully packaged artisanal gifts.

W: Wine, wine and more wine, including delicious varietals from Cavalli estate with its horse-themed labels.

X: X marks the spot. The fair is on from Friday to Sunday on the Hyde Park shopping centre rooftop, Johannesburg.

Y: Yswara Luxury Tea offers a wide selection of fine African teas. Single-estate, orthodox teas are all grown on the continent.
