The KwaZulu-Natal government will launch a thorough investigation into the fatal electrocution of a DA councillor, who had come in contact with an illegal connection while putting up by-election posters.

Mooi Mpofana councillor Ken Denysschen died last week.

DA MPL George Mari said the opposition party had requested the probe.

"Councillor Denysschen’s death could have been avoided had the municipality prioritised the removal of illegal connections earlier.  The DA is also aware that Mooi Mpofana is providing electricity at a loss due to its inability to monitor the ongoing problem of theft," he said.

Mooi Mpofana is currently under Administration by the KZN COGTA department.

"The onus to form a task team and investigate therefore falls on COGTA MEC, Nomusa Dube-Ncube, her HOD, Nonhlanhla Dlamini and administrator, Buhle Ally," Mari said.
