THEIR HIGHNESSES: Princess Charlene and Prince Albert show off Gabriella and Jacques

Princess Charlene and Prince Albert yesterday presented their royal twins, Prince Jacques Honore Rainier and Princess Gabriella Therese Marie, to the people of Monaco.

The royal couple showed off the four-week-old babies from the balcony of the prince's Palace of Monaco, according to hello-magazine.com. The day had been declared a public holiday in honour of the twins.

Thousands of residents gathered below the balcony for their first glimpse of the babies.

They were born on December 10 at the Princess Grace Hospital, which is named after their grandmother.

To celebrate the new arrivals, church bells rang out for 15 minutes and a 21-gun salute was fired for each twin.

According to US magazine, it is Jacques who will succeed his father, despite arriving two minutes after his sister. The magazine reported that Monaco's Salic law stipulates that male heirs must take the throne before their older sisters.

Last month, Princess Charlene, a former South African Olympic swimmer, told Paris Match magazine that she was "crazy in love" with her infants, describing their time together as "magical".

She was quoted as saying: "What I can tell you is that they are both very active and very expressive. They are beautiful, adorable, I'm crazy in love with them.

"I was happy to hear their first cries. I was obviously a bit overwhelmed with emotion."
