Since 1967, doctors have transplanted hearts, so why not heads? According to a report on The Daily Telegraph's website, this ghoulish scenario could become a reality in two years.

The modern-day Dr Frankenstein - Italian surgeon Sergio Canavero - published a paper on the technique he would use in the Surgical Neurology International journal this month.

According to the report on The Daily Telegraph website, the recipient's head and the donor body would both be cooled to extend the time that cells can survive without oxygen.

According to the report, after the transplant, the person would be put into a coma for around four weeks to prevent them moving while they heal.

In 1970, the head of one monkey was grafted onto the body of another. It lived for nine days.
