Hundreds to peel off for nude beach trial

Naturists will test the waters at KwaZulu-Natal's first nudist beach on Saturday. An excited Serge Pavlovic of the SA National Naturists Association said yesterday a "few hundred" people will bare all in a trial run at the 200m strip of the beach near the Mpenjati Nature Reserve.Pavlovic said activities including a volleyball tournament, a sack race and "other silly things" were planned."People from Gauteng, Free State, Cape Town and the Eastern Cape are expected to come on Saturday."We do not foresee thousands of people arriving because the approved strip is a small area, so there won't be space for thousands," Pavlovic said.The association and Hibiscus Coast Municipality planned to officially launch the nudist- friendly beach during the Easter weekend, but the Concerned Citizens of Hibiscus Coast launched a last-minute appeal to try to overturn the council's resolution to approve the beach use.The municipality yesterday postponed its decision on the appeal."This means that the council decision on approving the nudist-friendly beach still stands," council spokesman Simon April said.He said the Hibiscus municipality would not stop naturists from baring all this weekend.The beach had been an unofficial nudist beach for almost 20 years until naturists made an application to the municipality last year to amend the bylaws to allow them to go naked on the beach without the fear of arrest...
