If it is left up to the City of Cape Town naming committee, no more streets, buildings or monuments will be named after politicians. The committee considered a request by residents yesterday to rename Sea Point library after the late Colin Eglin, who was an MP and a founding member of the Progressive Party. Freedom Front Plus councillor Andre Fourie asked why the city mostly honoured politicians and former MPs in its naming process. He said: "A library is one of the places which should be named after a scientist or some author or something like that. Why should we single out one individual just because he is the member of the original DA - like Helen Suzman and these people?"DA councillor Monty Oliver agreed. "If the impression is created that we are only honouring past parliamentarians, then I think we should put the matter right," he said.PAC councillor Anwa Adams said: "If we look at the situation we have in the country currently, we are going to name and a couple of years down the line it will be removed."..
