The Eastern Cape department of education is in breach of a court order again, this time by failing to advertise teaching posts. It was ordered by a court in August to advertise vacancies by April 30.This was in response to a shortage of teachers that led to some classes having a hundred pupils, according to NGO The Legal Resources Centre. The NGO's lawyer, Cameron McConachie, said the department had been in breach of at least eight court orders since his organisation first took action against it in 2010.It has cost the centre "millions" to pursue five cases against the department in an attempt to force it to provide adequate education in the province, McConachie said. The NGO previously sought court orders to compel the department to provide desks and chairs, to employ and pay teachers, and to close mud schools. The Special Investigating Unit is to investigate allegations of maladministration and unlawful expenditure of public money in the department..
