Ruling party summit supports unity within a divided Cosatu

The ANC and its alliance partners said after a five-day summit that Cosatu should be given space to make its own decisions. The party affirmed its support of the right of Cosatu "to make its own decisions concerning internal discipline".It said it would work for the unity of Cosatu.The ruling party said the government and the courts should "conclude all civil, criminal and disciplinary matters directed at those responsible for the gross inflation of both the scope and costs of the projects" at Nkandla.It also raised concerns about Deputy Chief Justice Dikgang Moseneke' s statement on democracy and the role of the courts.The ANC said his recent statement "gave notice that our courts should be involved in matters that are properly in the jurisdiction of the executive and parliament".Moseneke reportedly told Georgetown University in Washington that South Africa's judiciary should take a more direct political stance than the US.On the Farlam report, it called for the introduction of centralised bargaining in the mining sector...
