'Lord Coke' advised to shamble off
A deputy speaker of Britain's House of Lords responsible for upholding standards was facing calls yesterday to quit the chamber after he was filmed allegedly snorting drugs off a prostitute's breasts. Lord John Sewel, 69, resigned as deputy speaker of parliament's upper house and chairman of its privileges and conduct committee - an £82525 (R1.6-million) a year post - following a sting exposé in The Sun newspaper on Sunday.The main opposition Labour Party suspended his membership yesterday.However, he remains under pressure to quit the chamber permanently.The Sun's footage showed him with a rolled-up £5 note wedged in his left nostril, sniffing powder from a woman's breasts and from a table top.Sewel is also seen relaxing in the orange bra and leather jacket of one of the prostitutes in a picture published yesterday. Lords Speaker Baroness Frances D'Souza said the "revelations" must be investigated as a matter of urgency". ..
