Step outside in Braamfontein (Joburg), Bree Street (Cape Town) or Florida Road (Durban) and you'll find South Africans with a flair for turning the streets into their personal runways. In the past three months Skip washing detergent has tried to harness that fashion creativity to celebrate South African style.Launching the #MyFabulous campaign, Skip asked designers Rich Mnisi of Johannesburg, Jenevieve Lyons of Cape Town and Sibu Msimang of Durban to put together a 10-piece range inspired by their city.Their collections were revealed to the public at Shine Studios in Braamfontein recently. Each range is based on images posted by the public on Instagram using the relevant city's hashtag: #MyFabulousDBN, #MyFabulousJHB and #MyFabulousCTN.Mnisi worked with street fashion bloggers who posted images of Johannesburg on the #MyFabulousJHB Instagram account to inspire him.Mnisi says: ''The result is a collection for confident women who are also romantic."His collection has structured lines, blue and white hues and a different take on denim. It feels urban and edgy."It's a range that's open to interpretation, so aesthetic does not determine how the wearer should look," he says.Durban-based Msimang's key inspiration was the geometric lines of the Moses Mabhida Stadium. She says she also drew inspiration from arts, crafts, jewellery and people she met on the street."Embracing Durban's rich Indian heritage, I used a lot of spicy colours like masala and saffron, toned down with cream and beige."She also took images from Instagram and had them digitally printed onto fabric, so you'll see landmarks featured in the range, accessorised with traditional beaded jewellery.Lyons captured Cape Town's misty, wet winter weather by using muted colours and sheer fabrics.Titled "Disparent", the collection is a combination of transparent and solid pieces to capture the linear lines and textures of Cape Town's buildings, with misty overlays."It's a trans-seasonal range for a fashion-conscious woman who longs for high-quality design and buys into separates that can be carried through to more than one season," she says...
